Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription from a physician for physical or occupational Hand therapy?

Most insurance plans (excluding Medicare) no longer require you to get a prescription from a medical doctor prior to seeing a physical or occupational hand therapist. Please call our office, and we will do our best to verify that we accept your insurance.  You may also contact your insurance company to learn more about your benefits.

How much time will my first visit require?

Please plan for the first visit to last approximately 60 minutes. You can download and fill out a PDF of your intake form here to help expedite the process.

What can I expect at my first visit?

The physical therapist will complete an initial evaluation on your first visit.  The initial evaluation will include a brief medical history, baseline measurements and a treatment plan.  Furthermore, your rehab team will instruct you in your initial exercises.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing.  For patients with lower extremity injuries (foot, ankle, knee, hip and low back) wear shorts and bring your tennis shoes.  For upper extremity patients (shoulder, neck) plan to wear a t-shirt.

Do we have shower and changing facilities?

Showers are available in our aquatics department.

Will my insurance pay for physical and Occupational therapy?

Sports Rehabilitation is proud to be a participating provider to most of the insurance plans in the KC metro.  We encourage all patients to check with your particular insurance carrier directly.  Our administrative staff will verify your physical or occupational therapy benefits prior to your initial visit to determine visit limitations, co-pays and status of deductibles.

Should I bring my insurance card on my first visit?

Yes, please bring your insurance card and ID to your first visit. Our administrative staff will make a copy of both your ID care and your insurance card.  Many insurance companies need a copy of the card when we submit your bill.  It is important that you notify the administrative staff if any changes occur with your insurance while you are receiving therapy.

Will I be expected to make my co-payment at the time of each visit?

Our administrative staff will verify your physical or occupational therapy benefits prior to your initial visit to determine your deductible and co-pay.  We will share this information with you at your first appointment. All copays are due at the time of service.

Will I be sore following treatment?

You could very well experience some soreness during and following your visit.  Please follow the instructions your rehab team will share with you to decrease pain (ice, elevation, unloading, etc).  If you do not experience a decrease in pain or you are unsure of what to do, please contact us.

Will my therapist communicate with my physician regarding my treatment?

Yes!  Each time you return to your physician, we will complete a progress note reviewing your status as well as your treatment plan.  It is important that you let your therapist know in advance when your physician appointments are so that this information is conveyed in a timely manner.  In addition, your physician will be made aware of any complications or concerns you may have between physician visits.
